World Masters Games Wrap-Up
Topic: General
As many of you know the Club had the privilege of hosting
the finals day for the World Masters Games 2017 golf competition.
Golfers had the opportunity to play on superbly prepared
courses of differing styles and degrees of difficulty, a major plus for many
participants. By finals day , the
original field of 673 golfers was reduced to 240 for the playoffs and
competition was intense. Anecdotal feedback
was the course was in wonderful condition, a challenging but fair layout (where
were those pin placements I wonder??)
and even the weather came to the party.
The Club provided excellent hospitality throughout the event and congratulations to all who contributed to showcasing our Club in
such a wonderful way for this high visibility event.
Of course the most important people on the day were the
players. And interestingly, our Club had more players than any other club in
the world participating and they all did themselves and the Club proud.
The following all placed in the top ten in their various
categories.
Eva Huang 1st Gross Stableford
Jane Lewis 8th
Stableford
Judy Hart 3rd Gross Stableford and 5th Stableford
Thai Leng 1st
in both Gross Stableford and Stableford
Tony Banks 3rd Stableford
Bryce Hawkins 10th
Stableford
James Peoples 9th Gross Stableford and 7th
Stableford
Dave Hendl 7th Gross Stableford and 3rd
Stableford.
A great performance by all concerned!
Golden Oldies World
Golf Festival, April 2018
If you enjoyed playing at the World Masters Games 2017 on
some of Auckland’s finest golf courses, there is the opportunity to do something
similar in April 2018 – this time down in Christchurch.
From 8 to 14 April the Golden Oldies World Golf Festival
will be played across four magnificent Christchurch golf courses – Terrace
Downs, Pegasus Golf and Sports Club, Harewood Golf Club and Christchurch Golf
Club – across five days with a rest day in between. The format will be similar to the World Masters Golf with one difference – no
one misses the cut as the Tournament is played and scored over all four days. And as a teaser – you just never know
what ‘name’ you might be teeing off with!
As well as the golf there will be a strong focus on enjoying
the fun, friendship and fraternity that goes hand in hand with Golden Oldies
sports. You will also be part of a major
sports event, the Christchurch Casino Golden Oldies Sports Celebration 2018,
the biggest participant sports festival ever held in Christchurch and indeed
the South Island. The celebration
features ten sports played over four
weeks involving 10,000 plus participants from around New Zealand and overseas.
This is literally a once in
a lifetime opportunity and with limited accommodation and playing
capacity places will fill quickly. We
recommend checking out the link www.christchurchgoldenoldies.com/sports/golf/ and register asap to ensure your place.
