Captains Final Success AT LAST!

Topic: Mens Golf
After 5 straight seasons in the Final of the Captains Pennants and each time the Bridesmaid - they have finally gotten over the line!  With forecast rain it was great to see clear skies and cool temperatures.  The greens were rolling well but the pins were in tricky positions (as befitting finals day).  Titirangi had clean and place on your own mown fairway.

Robby Turnbull and Michael Tran began the day - Robby was down early but fought back to square after 9 holes and then controlled the back 9 to win 3/2.  Michael also started slowly but got control of his match to win 4/2.  A very solid start!

Jaime Lansi had to fight all the way for his 1up win, while Daniel Whittaker got back to square at the turn but lost 3/2.  Nathan Smith, just back from injury, also fell behind early but played a great second shot to the penultimate hole to close out a 2/1 win.  We now need only 1 more win to clinch the title. and this came from Chris Blair on his birthday.  He led the entire way, 3up after 10 holes and finished the job 3/1.  The last 2 players - Vincent Vuillard and Nigel Smith both had very tough matches - Vincent losing 5/3 and Nigel 1down.  The team result had been secured though - a 5/3 win!

The whole team (a great mix of juniors and "older players") contributed throughout the year and can be very proud of their achievements - Michael Maingay & Andrew Millard (Co Captains), Vincent Vuillard, James Brown, Chris Blair, Nathan Smith, Nigel Smith, Alex Bagley, Jaime Lansi, Robby Turnbull, Daniel Freeman, Michael Tran, Daniel Whittaker, David Annan and Bruce Walkley.

The club how has the hat-trick of 3 teams in the top 3 grades - Bissett Shield, Presidents and Vice Presidents.  We have the option of now entering another team in the Captains for 2019.
