Midwinter Ambrose /Soup Lunch Wednesday June 27

Just on 48 entries so far which is fantastic. We will hold the luncheon rain hail or shine, but not necessarily the golf so don’t fear that you will have to play golf if it is too wet or too cold! Sign up details are on the noticeboard. Can we please have money for the luncheon to either Jackie Antonievich or Jo Hollies by this Wednesday June 20 so we can finalise catering numbers.

The lunch is optional so if you unable to stay then you are still welcome to put your name down for a game. Likewise, if you just want to come to the lunch then contact Jackie Antonievich directly to book and organise payment: antonievich@xtra.co.nz

Lunch – Soup (choice of 2 with 1 vegetarian option) bread rolls, dessert slice $10.00.

Ambrose- $2.00 entry fee payable at the pro-shop on the day.

Rules/Etiquette Weekly Tips

The following are particularly relevant now that the course is under “Winter Conditions”

Divots

We have had a number of people ask what is the correct procedure regarding divots, should they be replaced, sand or no sand, is it different from summer to winter and lots of conflicting advice! We consulted Spencer Cooper, Remuera Course Superintendent who kindly provided the following.

“There are many different theories regarding the correct way to replace and repair divots. From my experience here in Auckland it seems that the most effective way the repair a divot is to replace the piece of grass that has been hit out and cover it with a decent layer of sand. This sand will keep the damaged piece of turf moist for longer and keep it level which will help it to recover and grow roots faster. If there is not much grass to replace, merely fill the damaged area with a little sand to cover the exposed roots and it should grow back nicely. This should ideally be done year round for best success.”

The golf shop has the following notice on display at the moment but if you haven’t caught up with it, here it is

Suckered Balls

There is no rule called the “suckered ball” rule!

If you see your ball land in casual water but after 5 mins searching cannot find it, you may take relief from casual water at the point of entry.

If you see your ball land and find it you may take nearest point of relief no closer to the hole.

If you did not see the ball land you should play a provisional, and if the ball is not found you must play on with the provisional. Your first ball becomes a lost ball.

Areas of spongy turf(ground which significantly changes shape when a player applies weight) are also considered to be abnormal ground conditions. You must see the ball enter the spongy ground.

For further amplification please check with any of the golf shop staff.
