9 Hole Women's Golf update

Topic: Womens Golf

9 Hole Ladies Newsletter 26 June 2018

Yet again the weather is severely limiting our winter golf schedule. Yesterday’s scramble did not go ahead because of the rain. Our admiration for the 5 hardy players who turned up yesterday morning and played 9 holes in horrible conditions. Let’s hope that the next scramble which will be on Monday 9 July fares better.

And that we get a break in the rain for our:

Midwinter Ambrose /Soup Lunch Wednesday June 27

We have 13 teams of 4 signed up which is a great turnout for this time of the year. We will hold the luncheon rain, hail or shine, but not necessarily the golf so don’t fear that you will have to play golf if it is too wet or too cold! We have the upstairs room at Winstone’s booked from 12 to 2 for the lunch.

Rules/Etiquette Weekly Tips

Embedded/Plugged balls

If a ball is embedded or plugged in its own pitch mark the ball can be lifted, cleaned and dropped without penalty as near as possible to the spot where it lay not nearer the hole. If a ball is in casual water the player must lift the ball and drop it, without penalty, within one club-length of and not nearer the hole. Casual water' is any temporary accumulation of water on the course that is not in a water hazard and is visible before or after the player takes his stance. Ground that is merely wet, spongy, mushy or muddy is not casual water. There must be an accumulation of water above ground that is visible. Look around your shoes after you have taken your stance to determine if there is visible water.

Lost Ball

If you cannot find your ball you have no more than 5 minutes to look for it before declaring it lost and re-playing the shot. As with Out of Bounds, you count your original shot, take a 1 stroke penalty & return to the spot you originally played from to re-hit. If it is known or virtually certain (i.e. other players in your group also saw where the ball landed) that a ball that has not been found is in an abnormal ground condition, the player may take relief (with the agreement of your playing partners) without penalty as with GUR. An “abnormal ground condition” is any casual water, ground under repair or hole, cast or runway on the course made by a burrowing animal, a reptile or a bird. If you suspect a ball may be lost it is often useful to hit another “provisional” ball from the place of your original shot.
