Employee Bio - Calvin Coelho

Topic: General

Hi, my name is Calvin Coelho’, I come from the little town of Sydenham which is located in the heart of Durban, about 10 km’s off the coast on KZN’s beaches. I’ve been an avid golfer from a very young age and have many notable highlights in my golfing career. One of them is a 63 shot at my home club know as Royal Durban Golf Club, a second one would be winning the Pro-Am for the prestigious event known as the Nedbank Million Dollar which is always held at Sun City. I shot 65 on the day, competing against the likes of Ernie Els, Luke Donald and Darren Clarke, just to name few.

I did my PGA at a busy driving range in Durban known as the University Golf Academy, to which I worked there for 7 years including my PGA apprenticeship. Prior to that, I studied Golf Directorship and Club Management for 2 years which helped cope with the business of a range. There, I specialized in lessons, custom fitting as well as alterations to golf clubs of any kind to cater for the needs of custom fitting used equipment. At the time, there were only 2 ranges open to a city that had a population in 14 million, so we were quite busy throughout the year.

In New Zealand, the family I have here is my sister and her son, who have been living here for 16 years, which is how long ago I had last seen them. I’ve been here for almost 9 months to date, and am still adjusting to the different life-style as well as the different accents and culture that my senses are used to taking in. It’s been a wonderful learning experience so far, and I look forward to growing with Remuera GC and its members.
