A Big Week of News in Junior Golf

Topic: Course News

It has been a big week for Remuera juniors.

  1. Firstly, our junior pennants scratch team no. 1 won the Auckland Junior Pennants Division 1 trophy on Sunday at Titirangi after drawing 2 all with Pakuranga. Good wins to Connor Barker and Nathan Smith and a close loss to Grace Jung was enough to get the team across the line to win the trophy. Have a look at it in the Pro Shop when you next come in.
  2. Our second team in the same division finished fourth, and could have technically got up as high as third but it was a tough day and despite winning 3-1 against Royal Auckland, Pakuranga got one point too many in their match against Team 1.
  3. We propose to hold discussions with the clubs in Auckland around junior pennants for next year and there may be a change in time to early in the year. More to follow later.
  4. Last week was also the New Zealand under 19 golf champs for boys and girls held in the lovely sunny (not) Palmerston North. I don’t think I have ever been so cold for so long. Special congratulations go to Robbie Turnbull who finished second in the under 13 boys and to Sarah Murchison who finished 2nd in the girls net. There were many of our other juniors playing and they all did very well in very testing conditions. Congratulations to you all and above all congratulations on the way you conducted yourselves at the tournament.
  5. Last weekend Ben Manning defeated Hannah Murchison for the Barfoot & Thompson Meadowbank Challenge trophy. There will be no challenge this week as we are playing the senior/junior so the next challenge will be on Saturday 22nd. Who wants to challenge Ben? The winner gets $20 and the chance to defend the trophy again next week.
  6. This Saturday we have the junior/senior challenge for the junior/senior trophy (it does actually have a name but I cannot remember it sorry about that). Please let John Sims know ASAP if you want to enter and you will note that the Tee off is at 11.15am not at the normal junior times. Apparently seniors cannot get out of bed early! If you don’t want to play in it, just book in the normal junior slots. It will be off the stick match play and John will be attempting to match juniors and seniors up who have basically the same handicaps.
  7. My apologies to our GM Chris Davies for my emails last week. I was wrong and in fact the juniors have got more Tee times potentially under the new system. Quite why he had to put 18 minute intervals down and not 9 I don’t know but that’s what it was. These will apply from the start of October but note that if they are not used by I think Wednesday, adults will be able to take the remaining junior slots. We therefore need you all playing as much as possible through the final quarter of the year. If we do that, we should be able to hang on to those time slots for next year. Please book on Saturday for the following Saturday don’t leave it until the Friday before as you may not get a Tee time with the men potentially taking whatever Tee slots we have left.
  8. This Sunday is our Remuera junior classic with T times from 11.00am on. John will email out your Tee time if you have entered. If you have not entered, please do so ASAP.
  9. We welcomed on Saturday Lachlan and Cameron for their first time playing with us on Saturdays. We hope to see some more of them through the rest of the year. We also welcome back Hamish who we haven’t seen for a little while. If you are aware of any other juniors, please make sure they come and join us on Saturdays.

Finally, I think, good luck to our juniors who are playing in the AIMES games in Tauranga this week. This is for year 7 and 8 students
