9 Hole Women’s Golf Update

Tuesday 19 March 2019

WOMEN’S COCKTAIL PARTY

Was held last Thursday in glorious conditions – blue skies, no wind and the upstairs lounge was very inviting with the new deck well used. It was great to see such a good turn of our 9 hole members in support of this event! We got a chance to both meet other 9 holers whom we did not necessarily know and to meet/ greet some of the 18 holers.

Many thanks to Julie Hawkes and her 18HW’s committee for arranging this get together and providing the hors d’oeuvres.

As noted later in the Wrap we hope to build on this intermingling of 9 and 18 holers a bit later in the year with a combined competition. This will be the Halberg Foundation Charity Golf Day which will be held on Tuesday 16 April

INTERCLUB

9 Hole Pennants Monday 18th March v Wattle Downs

For this, our first match of the season, we were ably represented by Sabra Davies, Jo Hollies, Leanne Bode and Yolande van de Wetering. A closely fought competition, played in very good spirits and ideal conditions, saw Remuera come out on top 20-16.

Congratulations to our team. It is always nerve wracking the first match of the season and our women did us proud!

9 HOLE WOMEN’S OPEN DAYS

Pakuranga Golf Club Thursday 21st March 9.00am shotgun start. Entries have now closed for this. We have 7 players entered.

Whitford Park Golf Club Thursday 11 April, 9.30am shotgun start. Entry sheet is now on the noticeboard. Please write your name up and pay the $15 entry fee to Jo Hollies, Linda Brown, Sue Oliff or Jane Beveridge. Entries close Wednesday 3rd April. Remember this open day is during coring week at Remuera so is a good chance to play elsewhere.

Maxwell’s Golf Ladies Day Thursday 18th April 9.30am shotgun start. $20 Entry Fee. As entries for this are limited to 36 players in total, please enter directly by emailing Kaye Maxwell kaye@maxwellsgolf.co.nz with your name and golf number, and pay the $20 fee into Maxwell’s account 12-3025-0471611-00 with your name and Remuera as reference. Entries close 10th April or as soon as the 36 places are filled so if you want to take part, book as soon as you can.

Most 9HW’s clubs wear a team uniform when attending open days. In the past, Remuera did not have a uniform available however we now have a pool of Remuera branded shirts in a range of sizes. Many thanks to last year’s pennants players both 9 and 18 holers who have donated their shirts. Anyone entering in an open day is welcome to borrow a shirt for the occasion. Please contact Jo Hollies 021 630608 or Linda Brown 021 1215252 to arrange this. NB This is not compulsory – feel free to wear your own if you prefer.

CHARITY DAY Tuesday April 16th

As Julie mentioned at the cocktail party, the Women’s Committee is arranging a Women’s Charity Day in support of the Halberg Foundation. This is a Shotgun start, 18 hole Greensome Foursomes with a $20 pp entry fee and plenty of prizes. This will be a combined event for both 18 hole and 9 hole players with handicaps below 40.4 eligible to enter. You will be able to enter as a pair, or on your own and pairs will be made up mixing 9 and 18 hole players together. Keep an eye on the Wrap for more details to follow.

HANDICAP MATCH PLAY COMPETITION

This will run from April to November. Depending on the number of players entered, this may be held in two or more divisions. Each match would be scheduled at a mutually agreed time between the two players with bookings being made through Dotgolf as usual. There will be several weeks allowed for each round to be completed.

Prior to the start of the competition we will have a meeting with those interested to explain match play and we will also have a written guide to match play available so don’t be put off entering because you’re unsure of the format.

Please put your name and current handicap on the entry sheet in the locker room or email johollies@xtra.co.nz Entries close March 31st

CORING WEEK

The course will be closed for coring from Monday 8th April to Friday 12th April. The driving range will be operating as usual. This might be a good time to get a four together and try out the new Top Tracer at the range. Winstones will be open too if you feel like meeting up for coffee!
