The draw for the Waiatarua Trophy was made on Sunday afternoon and the tee bookings made based on that draw.
 
The field of 76 players were split at the median handicap - 12.5 was the highest handicap in Division 1; and 12.7 the lowest handicap in Division 2. 
 
The 38 players in each division were assigned a number 1 - 38, and a random number generator used to make the pairings.  The pairings were then placed on the tee sheet in the order that they were drawn. 
 
The event is a combined stableford competition over the 2 rounds - this Saturday and the Saturday July 3.  If one of the days is badly affected by weather, July 10th is a reserve date.
 
The draw for the second round will be based on score order, except that the starting tee will be the reverse of the tee from the 1st round for each pairing.
 
Despite the random nature of the draw there were some interesting pairings - Ivan Letica & John Childerhouse; Ian Braddock & Mike Hyams - all of whom play together regularly.  Wayne Scholtz and Ray Parsons - both members of Nomads.  Note - the winners last year were Wayne Scholtz and John Childerhouse.
